A New Calling

Well, I've had a few weeks of interesting events happen to our family. It's amazing how your life can change with the change of a calling. I have been serving in Young Womens as the secretary and then the 1st counselor since July and Ryan has been serving as the ward mission leader. So my Wednesday nights have been filled with activities, my Sundays are filled with lessons, my weeks have been filled with tons of work and planning. As you can tell from my blogging, I have been else where in the world of Young Womens. Young Womens is a TON of work! Well, Ryan got called to be the new Young Mens President and along with that call, I had to be released since we both couldn't be serving at the same time with Ethan and a baby on the way. Can you guess what calling I got? Adult Gospel Doctrine Instructor!!! Now I'll take a break while you laugh.......still laughing....okay, you can stop now. I never ever thought in a million years that I would ever be called to gospel doctrine. Ever! I'm a 25 year old young mom, I've never served a mission, I'm 6 months pregnant, and I haven't been able to go to gospel doctrine class for just about my whole married life because of other callings. Can you tell I'm freaking out just a little? So now I'm free on my Wednesday nights and that will be nice, but I will be doing A LOT of studying to make up for that I'm sure. We'll see how it goes and if you have any advice or good study materials, let me know!

You'll be great! I didn't laugh, I got excited for you. I'd love to have a teaching calling just for a great opportunity to learn a lot of things I hadn't known before. Right now I don't have a calling since I got to the singles' ward where Jeff is in the bishopric.

You really will do great, I know it! :)

Dan and I were both Gospel Doctrine teachers in the singles ward, thats how we met. It's the easiest class in the world to teach, easier then YW i'm sure. Totally basic.

Brittany, you will be a great teacher. I remember when you used to teach RS in the SC ward, and you were wonderful! I do have one study guide suggestion. If you don't already have it, the Book of Mormon Reference Companion edited by Dennis L. Largey (came out about 5 years ago) is excellent. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. Good luck!

You're going to be great. I just wish I could be in there for your lessons sometimes! :) I have to say that calling would be very intimidating for me too. The good thing is that when you're set apart for something, whatever you're not strong at is made up for. Hope you're back is manageable this week...

W-O-W !! Sounds like you jumped from one fire to the next. You'll do great. You are smart and have a strong testimony of the Gospel and know how to study (e.g. Nursing School.) Brad was Gospel Doctrine Teacher when we first got married and that has been his most favorite calling. Good Luck!

I'd just like to give you a little counsel about your new calling. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to dye your hair dark black when talking about modest dress in Gospel Doctrine... no matter how tempting it may be. Now might be a good time to get that tattoo of yours removed. I know no one sees it but still.

Oh Happy DAY!!! I know you are so relieved to have a little less stress. I seem to remember you being a STELLAR GD teacher back in teh days of the 12th ward:) Love you!
