I'm Paining!

That's what some of our patients would say back when I worked in Labor and Delivery and I always thought it sounded really funny, but now I feel like screaming that at the top of my lungs! I'm seriously having the worst back pain I have ever had in my life! The sad thing is I'm only 21 weeks, I've just started showing, I'm not even that big, and I'm in pain! What the heck?! Plus it's not even in the usual "pregnancy" areas that hurt. I'm hurting on my right side where your "floating ribs" are (the ribs that aren't attached to your rib cage). Nothing makes it feel better, nothing makes it feel worse, it's just constant pain and I never have relief. It's just weird because I have full range of motion and I can totally move around because nothing tweaks it weird, it's just there. It's just hard to describe. Tylenol does nothing and I've tried warm baths and heating pads, but I'm still hurting. I went to the chiropractor today and he thinks that my intercostal nerve is irritated or pinched so he did a few adjustments, but since I'm pregnant he had to work around the area or else he'd hurt the baby. I felt a little better after the chiropractor, but as the day has gone on, the pain has returned. It's to the point that it hurts so bad that I'm nauseous and I can't think straight. I've never really had back pain ever before so this is all new to me. I had a small amount of sciatica when I was pregnant with Ethan but our friend Mike who was in chiropractic school totally adjusted me and I was fine the rest of my pregnancy. I'm sorry I'm complaining, I know complaining gets old so I try to not do it very often. So wish me luck and say a prayer for me that this feels better!

You know when Laurel, Erica's sister in law, was pregnant, she was having a severe pain like this too, and found out after a LONG time that her ribs had actually popped out of place. Maybe that is what is up with you. She had this horrible pain and finally like her last month she went to a different doctor, and they fixed her right up. Ask erica about it more. She knows the details. Good Luck!

Yikes! That sounds absolutely awful and I hope it doesn't last the duration of your pregnancy.

I don't like complaining either, but when it is something that sever you can't help it because it consumes your thoughts. Besides, this is a forum where you can complain and you will have many friends pulling for you.

This probably sounds silly, but could it be your gall bladder? I had horrible pain in my side when I was pregnant and it turns out that was what it was. It wasn't too bad at first, but by the end it was miserable. I feel your pain.

A) Are you sure it's not kidney stones or a UTI -- seems like the right place. At least go get your urine tested.
b) YOGA. Honestly, that totally helped when I was pregnant with S. The older you get the more crappy it all becomes.
Tough luck, ain't it? :)

Man--that sounds HORRID! I am so sorry:( I have no advice though other than --Get a blessing if you haven't---and it's not Kidney stones b/c that is WAY low back pain--I have had MANY:( I did have some horrid rib pain in my back like that after I had P and finally a chiropractor told me I had "thrown a rib" it was horrible like that but so much better once it got in place.

Sorry to hear you're hurting. It's the worst when nothing helps either. I hope you find something that helps!

It very well could be kidney stones or a kidney infection everyone experiences different pain. It could be referred. I've passed them. You never know. Maybe your appendix or gall bladder. Wouldn't hurt to get checked out missy. And of course I'd think first of it being a rib out, since I'm married to a Chiro. But since you've already been seen by one I don't know. Good luck and feel better.

Ouch!!! Since you can still move, I can recommend the yoga, too, FWIW {:-). (Matt's wife, Ann, has a really good prenatal video at mommyoga.com & Amazon). Whatever the cause, I sure hope you're feeling at least a little better (and hopefully a lot!) soon so you can get back to enjoying being pregnant! You're in our prayers! :-)

So sorry to hear that your back is "paining." I hope it feels better very soon.

P.S. I read the post that you're having a little boy. Congrats! I'm sure your two little guys will have tons of fun together.
