Ethan's Birthday Prep

Okay, so I have been VERY busy in the kitchen today! Oh my goodness. I've made and decorated cupcakes, frosted and decorated E's birthday cake, made dirt and scary fingers, filled the pinata, and made dinner. So Ethan's cake this year is more of a "tasty" cake than a cake that looks good. It's a homemade ice cream cake. So basically it's a chocolate cake with Butterfinger ice cream in the center and chocolate frosting. It is very thick and very tall and it takes up a whole shelf in my freezer so I'm hoping it will feed a lot of people.
I decorated it with just some simple dots that match the cupcakes that I decorated. I don't have a picture of them so I'll get one tomorrow. I had some Halloween cupcake stencils that I just used some simple sugar sprinkles to make little pumpkins, spiders and bats on top. I also have a little cupcake tower stand that I'll put all the cupcakes on. It should be really cute.

I also broke out the good ol' pumpkin pinata that I made last year. For those of you who weren't around last year, I made a pumpkin pinata that took just about 2 months to make. It took forever! Well, I made it into a trap door pinata...I'll explain. I have a little trap door that is connected to a ribbon and I attach a lot of other ribbons to the bottom of the pinata. So instead of hitting the pinata to get candy, the kids take turns pulling a ribbon. If it's the right ribbon then the trap door with release and candy will come out. It's great because I can reuse the pinata year after year and no one gets konked on the head with a bat. Perfect!

Here is a close up picture of the "Scary Lady Fingers" that I whipped up today.

And this is the cute face that I'm working so hard for! I can't believe he will be 2! I have a 2 year old?! What?!
