1 Hour

That is the amount of sleep I got last night. I haven't slept well in months. I am up constantly with the baby. I decided to calculate the amount of sleep that I have gotten since Max was born and how much sleep I should have gotten. Basically up to today, if I got the recommended 8 hours of sleep a day I should have slept 1088 hours. On average I get about 2-4 hours of interrupted sleep a night so when you calculate it all out I've only had 408 hours of sleep since he was born (a little over 4 months). That means I have missed out on 680 hours of sleep. If I wanted to catch up it would take me 28 days of consecutive sleep to even come close! I am seriously a babbling, forgetful zombie around here. How are moms suppose to function like this? Really, I want to know.

Seriously, you dial down your expectations for the definition of "function." {:-) And some of the best advice I've heard is just "never count how much sleep you're getting." (Of course, I heard that once Kiddo was sleeping well, so it went over more easily than it would have earlier...)

Kiddo was like that when he was born, and although I *thought* I was functioning alright, once I started getting more sleep, a few people told me I'd looked like death for those first few months. I didn't think I looked that bad at the time, LOL! But I did generally sleep rocking him or on the couch holding him for about 9 fitful months.

Possibly, is there anyone else who can watch Max for even two hours, during wake-y/play time, (or hold him during nap time) so that you can rest? (A Laurel project ... or maybe an RS sign-up or ask your VTs for help?) Maybe during E's naps, so whoever's watching Max would only have him to take care of?

OK, comment's getting too long, but those are my thoughts... we're thinking of you & praying for you. {:-) It will - eventually - be okay, and I hope that happens sooner than later for you. *hugs*

I am SO right on the SAME boat. In the past 3 nights I have slept about 1 hour in my bed TOTAL each night. I am dying too. You know the saying "what doesn't kill you..." well some days I wish it would kill me....i don't feel any stronger:( When you are up in the night...rest assured I am too:(

I think a spa trip is due. A massage is at least like 2-3 hours of sleep.
Right?
I'm so sorry Brit, realize it's not going to last forever.
right?

Oh dear. If I could I would jump on a plane right now and take care of that sweet baby so you could get some shut eye! :(

Oh man, that stinks. Your little guy needs to sleep so you can. I agree you need a spa trip.

That's frustrating! I don't do anything well when I don't get enough sleep.

Secrets of the Baby Whisper (the book) totally helped me.

I'm sorry Brittany. I remember those days and feeling like a zombie. :( Please let me know if I can help in some way. I already have 4000 kids here, so a couple more wouldn't make a difference. :)

Hang in there! I'm sure it will get better soon.

We're expecting baby #2 on March 20 so I'll be climbing in the No Sleep Boat soon. :)
